Because 'freephone' should be free

These days, a significant proportion of your callers are likely to rely on mobile phones, for a whole variety of reasons – privacy included. If you have a freephone number, your callers might pay up to 41p a minute to call your freephone number from their mobile phone – and the call will appear on their bill. Not very confidential or accessible.

Free from mobiles

THA offers the only freephone numbers that are free to call from mobile phones. THA freephone numbers all begin '0808 80'. This range is automatically recognised by the mobile networks' billing systems and will not be charged or itemised on a bill.

A competitive rate, just for helplines

Individually, your helpline's call volumes may not give you enough bargaining power to negotiate a low rate from your telecoms company. But when you join the THA's mobile-friendly freephones scheme, you are joining forces with more than 100 helplines whose total call volumes mean we can negotiate a very competitive rate for you, capped at only 2.1p per incoming call minute*.

Because Ofcom and the mobile networks want to ensure that these numbers are only used by confidential, non-profit-making helplines, we can only allocate THA freephone numbers to Full Voting THA members.
