About Us

TELEPHONE HELPLINES ASSOCIATION

Established in 1996, we are the lead provider of information, consultancy and training on matters relating to the provision of quality helpline services.  With offices in London, Belfast and Glasgow, we aim to support helpline services across the UK and Ireland.

We work with member and non-member helplines, promoting best practice and enabling helplines to work towards our Guidelines for Good Practice

Our 400 plus members include most national helpline services such as Samaritans, Shelterline, ChildLine and Cancerbackup as well as many local and regional services. Between them our members handle over 22 million calls per year.

We also promote the phone as a tool to address social exclusion and encourage organisations to be creative and innovative in the way they use it for the provision of services, for the recruitment and support of volunteers and to increase management efficiency.

We respond to consultations of behalf of our membership, liaise with telecommunication providers and regulators and seek to advance the interests of helplines with government and funders.

THA mission statement

The Telephone Helplines Association works with helplines to achieve the highest quality response to all those seeking information, advice and help on health, social welfare or educational issues via the telephone and other interactive technology.
