Informing Callers about Call Charges

The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) has issued new guidance on advertising call charges.

On 1 October 2006, BT changed its residential tariff structures, replacing the minimum call cost with a call set-up fee, a connection charge. CAP suggests that organisations with 0845 or 0870 numbers  should include these statements in their advertising:

(Call charges correct on 10 October 2006)

0845 numbers:
Calls provided by BT will be charged at up to 4 pence per minute at all times. A call set-up fee of 3 pence per call applies to calls from residential lines. Mobile and other providers’ charges may vary.

0870 numbers:
Calls provided by BT will be charged at up to 8 pence per minute at all times. A call set-up fee of 3 pence per call applies to calls from residential lines. Mobile and other providers’ charges may vary
